Our programs address three community needs, well-documented by research:
- For nearly all girls, the passage through adolescence is marked by a drop in self-confidence and a growing sense of personal inadequacy that many girls carry with them beyond the teenage years.
- Young people are increasingly disconnected from the natural world. Studies show that children who are engaged with nature demonstrate increased creativity, cooperation, problem-solving and critical thinking skills, science grades, and test scores. In addition, encouraging kids to fall in love with nature will help them develop into future environmental stewards.
- Children do not often have the opportunity to learn from and with others from different cultural and economic backgrounds. This isolation prevents young people from developing trust and community with those who are different from themselves.
