Sarah Insel was born and raised on the Pacific Ocean and while she has temporarily relocated to New York City to attend a masters program at Columbia University School of Social Work, the west coast runs through her veins. A lover of adventure, challenge, and new friends she began volunteering for Passages in 2007, while working for Girl Scouts in Seattle. She was immediately drawn in and inspired by the passion and power of the community of women and girls. These qualities continue to inspire her advocacy work on the east coast where she spends her days playing on her bicycle, developing social justice curriculum, studying racial inequities of mass incarceration, doing yoga, and working with LGBTQQA young people in leadership development programs. She's a practicing labor support doula, and loves to backpack, sing silly songs, travel, swim, work with her hands, and cook for anyone who comes near her. Her dedication to well-roundedness, play, and being in the outdoors only increase the excitement she has about returning to the Pacific Northwest and Passages to spend time with girls on course this summer!
